Focus on Dropping Health Care CostsBack

09/20/2013

Our September 20 fall kickoff meeting took place at Nelson Mullins’ Capitol Hill office.  It focused on a fascinating trend indicating that, for the first time in decades, healthcare costs seem to actually be falling.  The realities underlying these recent indicators, the reasons behind them, and whether they are temporary or systematic, are all controversial.  But analyzing this phenomenon can lead to important conclusions about healthcare reform efforts, technology, provider integration, and other policy and practical initiatives.

Our speakers on this subject were Kaveh Safavi, M.D., J.D., who is the Managing Director- North American Health for Accenture, and John (Jay) Shiver, who is an Assistant Professor, Department of Health Administration and Policy at George Mason University. Both Kaveh and Jay were entertaining and illuminating speakers with long backgrounds in examining medical cost trends domestically and globally. Their presentations are attached.
